A brewer’s homestead that just happens to be a restaurant.

We spend a lot of time here ourselves, so creating a homey environment was essential. It happened quite naturally because many features of the original brewery building remain, like the cream city brick and rough-hewn beams that spread their charm over the dining room and bar. We hope you feel as at home here as we do.

The Beer

It’s absolutely pouring here.

There’s a reason we celebrate craft brewing at Foxtown. Our grounds were the site of the Opitz and Zimmermann Brewery, started in 1857 by two German immigrants who brought their Old-World brewing style to the new world. Those first brewmasters would be proud that their legacy still inspires the vast variety of beers we brew today: IPAs, lagers, hefeweizens, Pilsners, to name just a few. And many of them are on tap, fresh from the keg to you. Our crafty brewmasters are always imagining and innovating, creating new brews. The only way to keep up is to visit often!

The Caves

Is this cool or what?

Brewing at the historic Foxtown site continued into the 1900s, and, apparently, even during Prohibition. In 1926, raiding federal “dry agents” came across brewing equipment and two 500-gallon vats of fermenting beer, but no one was home. Nothing to see here, folks!

Today, we’ve carefully restored the original, main building as well as significant additions made over the years. The old brewery is a historical goldmine, with two levels of lagering caves—ideal for chilled lager fermentation in the days before commercial refrigeration. Meticulously restored, , the barrel-vaulted, cream city brick caverns make for a fascinating tour of brewing’s “underground” history.
